We live in a world filled with information. In fact, it’s usually right at our fingertips. The tv, radio, internet etc. You get the picture. If we want to know anything, we can look it up within minutes. As great as this might seem, it doesn’t come without a price. Information is wonderful as long as it’s accurate. What determines accuracy in this world is not human beings. We’re all flawed. Accuracy is based on the One who designed human beings. True accuracy only comes from God’s Word. When we hit the internet, we’re not just exposed to the information we search for, we’re exposed to opinions and many falsehoods that try to sway us in wrong directions. We’re told that if we’re not thinking “this way” or “that way” that we are wrong and should be made to feel less than. We’re exposed to half truths and only the “facts” certain individuals want us to have. This shouldn’t be. We are not programmed robots. We’re real people, dealing with real problems in a really messed up world. We need real help!
Our help, however, does not come from the internet or any other news source. It doesn’t come from a series of self help books. It doesn’t even come from our well meaning friends and family. Our true help comes from The Lord. Psalm 121:2 (NLT) literally says “My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth!” Why is this so important? It’s important for our hearts and minds to get an accurate picture of who we are because of Whose we are. Every other avenue is trying to convince us that we don’t measure up or that we’re something we’re not. It’s usually trying to fix things using the world’s methods. When we get a clear picture of Who we belong to, we start to get an idea of who we’re meant to be. We are made to be more than conquerors in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:37). Everything else will pale in comparison to this truth. We won’t freak out if our favorite candidate isn’t elected. We won’t collapse under the weight of a bad doctor’s report. The state of our bank account will not determine whether or not we make it. This is true help in time of trouble. We need to get our identity and self worth from the One who made us and loves us most. The only thing that matters is “If God is for us, who can ever be against us?” (Romans 8:31 NLT)
Psalm 3:3 (NKJV) says “But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, My glory and the One who lifts up my head.” We have absolutely no reason to walk around downtrodden if our lives are hidden in Christ Jesus. He’s saying to you, “I’ve got this. Nothing can overpower me!” He is already the Victor and always will be. Nothing takes our God by surprise. There’s no mess we could ever find ourselves in that He can’t handle. The Bible even assures us in 1 Corinthians chapter 10 that He makes a way of escape for us. If there’s anything we can’t handle, rest assured, He can and He has! So hold your head up! He’s in full control.
Colossians 2:9-10 tells us “For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.” So basically, this is saying that He’s 100% in charge. Every high ranking person of power in this world still has to take a knee to Jesus. Since we’re in union with Jesus, positionally, worldly matters are beneath us. This does not mean we don’t have to deal with things. It just means that Christ has already given us the victory over whatever “it” is and He will use our circumstances for our good as far as eternal value goes. He’s molding us and shaping us every day to become more like Him. He’s training us to only listen to His voice.
So, the next time you’re cruising the internet or watching the evening news, and you’re being pushed in the direction of slanted opinions, remember Jesus. Remember to seek His truth. He’s already conquered this world. He did it for us so we could come boldly before His throne and get true information. He did it so we could be in union with Him forever. He became the one true offering for our liberty and freedom. He wants to see His people victorious in the land. Jesus is The Champion and you are His! This is solid Truth!
