Growing up in the south with all the woods had its challenges. We lived on acres of land. There was always a four-wheeler to ride, a tree to climb or a fort to build. Needless to say, safety was always an issue. Kids don’t always care about safety. My mom would make sure to declare that my helmet must be on if I was even thinking about “getting on that thing”. Peroxide and Band-Aids were a staple at our house. My brother seemed to be a frequent flier at the emergency room. Having said all that, we had fun. Yes, there were always too many kids on the trampoline and we threw caution to the wind. But good times were had by all. We were too young to understand the importance of being safe. Looking back, I’m thankful that we had people older and wiser than us to look out for our pitfalls. Isn’t this just like The Lord?

As an adult, I’m definitely more aware of danger. It’s not really the scenario of jumping a ramp on a dirt bike anymore. Now the scary stuff involves praying my niece is okay at school, crazy drivers on the road and people losing their minds in a long line at a sports event. These things are real and we face this stuff every day. Keep in mind, we do not face it alone. If Jesus is your Savior, He goes with you everywhere. There’s nothing that surprises Him or intimidates Him. “The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe.” (‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭18‬:‭10‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

When anxiety starts to creep in, you can just whisper His name and you’re encompassed by a strong fortress. His name is that! We place ourselves under His authority and safety is our peace! You may not see anything change in the natural, but Heaven comes to your rescue at the very Name above all names! This encourages me. I’ve got supernatural help anywhere on this planet.

The Lord is very protective of His children. There’s nowhere you can go out of His sight. “The Lord himself watches over you! The Lord stands beside you as your protective shade. The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon at night.” (‭‭Psalms‬ ‭121‬:‭5‬-‭6‬ ‭NLT‬‬) We, as humans, often hire babysitters just to get a night out for ourselves. Not the Lord! He will not entrust us to anyone. He watches over us, Himself. He never takes a break. We’re His primary focus at all times. Isn’t it comforting to know that you don’t have to be afraid of certain things because you know The One who’s there to keep you from falling? It gives us confidence. This confidence certainly has nothing to do with us. It’s confidence in Him. He looks ahead for possible pitfalls for us and leads us in another direction. Our Lord is serious about developing a sense of trust between us and Him. This is the only way we will ever be who He’s called us to be. We have to be confident that we can step out in faith and He’s right there with us.

Children always feel more at ease when they know that no matter what happens that day, they can come home to loving arms and encouragement. We are God’s children. The situations we face every day may be more severe than that of small children but the same idea applies. We have encouragement in our hearts to know that Jesus is always there for us. “This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him. For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease.” ‭‭(Psalms‬ ‭91‬:‭2‬-‭3‬ ‭NLT‬‬) He is the ultimate parent! He’s kind. He’s loving. He’s not condemning. He’s always there. He will protect you in this life. He makes sure you’re safe and sound.

Allergy season is here. Every year the pollen seems to be worse than the year before. I load up on the nasal sprays, ear drops and the antihistamines. As rough as the season is on my physical senses, things sure look pretty. The sun seems brighter, bees are flying...

I remember growing up riding in the car with my parents. I always wanted the radio on. We didn’t have music playlists on our phones like we do now. We didn’t even have cell phones. If we were fortunate, we had a tape player in our car where we could listen to our...
