This is going to sound really elementary, but please humor me. If we want to heat up leftovers, we don’t reach for the tv remote. No. We go to the microwave, stove top or oven. The tv is a complex machine but it’s not designed to heat food. The tv is hardwired for bringing information or just getting entertainment to you in some way. Simple, right? In the same way, we have emotional and spiritual needs in our lives. Why, as humans, do we seem to reach for any and everything to “make right” only the provision that God can complete in His work? We need a break! Vacations are wonderful and it’s nice to get away but the issue is, you can’t get away from your mind! It goes with you! A destination will not fix that. It can’t. It may offer some temporary relief but we’re looking for internal change. We need peace! Being at peace doesn’t mean there’s an absence of difficulty. Being at peace means you pass your burdens to One who is more equipped to handle your difficulties. True peace is only ever found in the living God.

“But the Lord’s plans stand firm forever; his intentions can never be shaken.” (‭‭Psalms‬ ‭33‬:‭11‬ ‭NLT‬‬) This simple scripture is a key to a historical mystery. Think about it. His plans stand firm forever. They’re not changing! His goal is to change us so we conform to His plan. His intentions are good so we need not worry. We long for “rightness” and so often it seems like everything around us is so wrong and getting worse. Could this mean that God is transforming you and helping you to see more clearly? The more you walk with Him, the more He aligns your perspective with His. This is good news! It’s not all at once, but step by step. He changes us from the inside out. We should respond favorably to this process because we’re hardwired for it. It just feels right. It’s what He had planned all along!

Being “hardwired” for something means that you have been given instinct to go off of. “It was by faith that Noah built a large boat to save his family from the flood. He obeyed God, who warned him about things that had never happened before. By his faith Noah condemned the rest of the world, and he received the righteousness that comes by faith.” (Hebrews‬ ‭11‬:‭7‬ ‭NLT‬‬) God allowed Noah to understand the seriousness of the time he was living in. Noah was close enough to The Lord to understand that this was what he was created for. So, by faith, he was obedient to the command.

If you find yourself in a tough season of life, trust The One who literally gave everything for you that things will work out for your good. He’s already made the plan. Ask The Lord to make known to you what He’s doing. “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.” (‭‭James‬ ‭1‬:‭5‬ ‭NLT)‬‬ He will show you how to get from point A to point B. Whatever He has planned for His children will come to pass. Life is not always easy. It’s not always predictable. However, we are hardwired for God’s transforming grace.
