We all know someone that you just can’t share every piece of information with. The very thought of some things will send them over the edge. They will worry night and day. Whatever the “situation” is, may not even come to pass, but they will still worry. What if? How? Why? How could…? You get the idea. You might actually be one of those people. I think, if we’re being honest, we all worry to some degree. Different subjects trigger people differently. For some, it’s the kids. For others it’s the economy. Some folks worry about health conditions that they “may” get. Whatever the case, worrying takes up a lot of valuable time and really does nothing but wear you out.

“Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?” (‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6‬:‭27‬ ‭NLT)‬‬ Jesus is making the point here that we are certainly not in control of life. There are so many things completely out of our hands. So what do we do? Do we get anxious and make ourselves sick through sleepless nights? Or is there anything else available to us? “I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your wonders of old. I will ponder all your work, and meditate on your mighty deeds.” (‭‭Psalm‬ ‭77‬:‭11‬-‭12‬ ‭ESV‬‬) Yes! We remember Who God Is! He hears the cries of His people and He acts. He may not do things the way we “think” it’s supposed to be, but He’s in charge. We know His intentions towards us are good. He loves us. He doesn’t want you fretting over what to do in a certain situation. He has promises for everything you will ever encounter in His Holy Word. Instead of tuning into the tough details of the situation you’re facing, tune into The One who actually can and will do something about it.

“God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through?” (‭‭Numbers‬ ‭23‬:‭19‬ ‭NLT‬‬) Get in His Word and find out what He promises you, as His child, about your situation. Meditate on it. When the enemy tries to stir up fear and anxiety which leads to nonstop worry, you speak the promise God has made to you in His Word. You have to do it in faith most of the time because you can’t actually “see” how He’s working. However, you need to understand that He IS working. For example, you’ve got a financial situation that is taking every penny you have to get through. The enemy whispers, “you’re not going to make it.” You start to worry and get anxious. Stop! Remember The Lord. His Word says, “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” ‭‭(Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭19‬ ‭NIV‬‬) This is how you soothe the sting of worry. It shrivels up when you put God’s Truth on it.

We live in a tough world. We don’t stick our heads in the sand and act like problems don’t exist. But, life’s circumstances have no right to steal your joy. God wants us to do life with Him. He’s not just a Sunday morning Jesus. He’s 24/7. When you have a situation that arises that rushes in unexpectedly, take a moment and remind yourself Who’s in charge. Get in His Word and find a promise about the issue. Thank Him for it. Put the matter in His Hands, get some rest and don’t worry.

The Midnight Hour

There’s something interesting about midnight. At that very moment, yesterday dies and tomorrow is here. It may not seem like tomorrow because midnight is the darkest hour, humanly speaking, of the day. The void of light causes your hardships to amplify. Your...

The Tree Trunk

Allergy season is here. Every year the pollen seems to be worse than the year before. I load up on the nasal sprays, ear drops and the antihistamines. As rough as the season is on my physical senses, things sure look pretty. The sun seems brighter, bees are flying...
