Have you ever seen a picture that a child has drawn and not exactly been able to make out what it is? You ask them to “explain” their art piece and all of a sudden, it comes into focus. This little Picasso is suddenly brilliant! It’s really amazing that you get to see inside their little mind for a minute. This piece of work gives you some insight into who they are. The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands (‭Psalms‬ ‭19‬:‭1‬ NIV). Ok. So this Artist is obviously on a much larger scale! The sky, space, earth etc. is His masterpiece. And He changes the look of things every day! This represents Him and the unlimited creative resources He has. And this is just a part of Who He Is! This Designer is beyond genius! He designed the universe and everything in it. He designed and created the human race. This IS wisdom at its highest possible level. 

So the question becomes, if God is all powerful, all creative, all knowing and completely capable of being self-sustaining, why do we think we possess the power to navigate life through our human wisdom? Even if we deny that we do this, we do it! Somehow, some way, “this time” things will work out differently. Wrong! The same bad choices always get the same bad results. Same thing is true for good choices. The good decisions we make bring wonderful results. But honestly, we can take no credit for this. God IS the One who gives us the ability to go against our fleshly nature and make those good decisions. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect (‭Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭2‬ NLT). See? It’s God who transforms us. He, alone, has the power to do it. Our human minds are absolutely nothing compared to His infinite wisdom. He actually created our finite minds! He knows what they are and are not capable of. 

If we were capable of knowing all things, we wouldn’t be dependent upon Him. The world says to look out for number one and to look for answers from within. The Bible paints a codependent picture. It says “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.” (‭James‬ ‭1‬:‭5‬ NLT) He wants to be involved in our decision making. He wants to keep us safe. He wants to share intimate details with us that cause us to triumph. He is the Father. We are His children. Jesus said,  “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.” (‭Matthew‬ ‭18‬:‭3‬ NKJV) No, we’re not supposed to be childish. We’re supposed to be childlike in the way that we humble ourselves under His governing authority and truly want what He wants for us because He has all of the answers to life. We will mess up every time if we rely on ourselves and/or the ways of the world. 

Being led by Jesus will not be accomplished by wishful thinking. “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.” (‭Isaiah‬ ‭55‬:‭8‬ NLT) He’s telling us that we have to spend time in His presence to get a glimpse of how He wants us to do life. He’s beyond our comprehension and yet He wants a real relationship with us. It blows my mind! He wants to show us ways in which to make life less complicated and less stressful. Will you take Him up on the offer?

He’s already paved the way. He holds out His hand for the taking. He wants to walk you through this journey called life. Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying (‭Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭12‬ NLT). This is a key point. Keep on communicating with Him. Things in this world are tough. He never said they wouldn’t be. But we have the opportunity to do things His way which will result in victory or we can rely on our own way and reap victimhood. The choice is obviously simple. Humble yourself under a holy God. Your skills and achievements are no match for such majesty. They are given to you by the One who owns it all. Jesus has won the war of wisdom.
