Sometimes I feel like if I think about something long enough, I can figure it out. Wrong! The constant scrambling to find a peaceful spot in my mind where I can settle the issue is ultimately out of reach. But I keep trying to circle the wagon with the same information over and over hoping this time it will produce something of value. To no avail, I finally throw my hands up in surrender. I’m tired. I don’t want to think for one more second. Jesus, You have to take the wheel. I’m out of gas. This is precisely the point when things start making sense. I don’t have to know the answer to this mystery. I know THE ANSWER to everything I’ll ever need in this life. His name is Jesus and He’s my stability in all turbulent waters.

Deep calls unto deep at the noise of Your waterfalls; All Your waves and billows have gone over me (‭Psalms‬ ‭42‬:‭7‬ NKJV). The writer is in deep turmoil and he’s calling out to The One who understands the deep mysteries of life. Basically, “Lord, help me!” We’ve certainly all been there at some point. I’m at my wit’s end! Stop the waves. Stop the spinning. I’m focusing on you and you’ve promised to bring peace if I lift my thoughts to you. You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! (Isaiah‬ ‭26‬:‭3‬ NLT) The Lord to the rescue. His words alone calm physical storms and the emotional ones we get ourselves into by trying to fit an infinite God’s thoughts into our finite minds. Why is humanity so difficult? Why are humans so stubborn?

When are we going to learn that we cannot figure everything out? “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.” (‭Isaiah‬ ‭55‬:‭8‬ NLT) Far beyond anything I could imagine? Exactly what is this implying? Is it saying that even though I dwell on something night and day, there’s a great chance I won’t be able to figure it out? Absolutely! Is this ok? Sure. If He already has it figured out, why should I worry? He’s holding me in the very Palm of His Hand. Problem solved. But what if….? No! Problem solved!

We, as people, have to understand that we’re just not going to know everything. We’re not God. He chooses what He allows us to know and assumes that we leave the rest up to Him. If He doesn’t need for us to have every detail of a situation, then we can trust that it’s not needed. No one can comprehend the height of heaven, the depth of the earth, or all that goes on in the king’s mind! (‭Proverbs‬ ‭25‬:‭3‬ NLT) We are to be connected to Him at all times. If we knew all of life’s mysteries and how everything in the universe worked, we would not need to stay in constant contact with The Almighty. If we knew exactly what the future held, there would be no need to pray for direction. Let this not be! He is the vine and we are the branches. He’s our life source. Let’s love Him and trust Him to get us safely home. Let’s do life with a loving Savior that provides one hundred percent certainty and leave life’s mysteries to Him.

Allergy season is here. Every year the pollen seems to be worse than the year before. I load up on the nasal sprays, ear drops and the antihistamines. As rough as the season is on my physical senses, things sure look pretty. The sun seems brighter, bees are flying...

I remember growing up riding in the car with my parents. I always wanted the radio on. We didn’t have music playlists on our phones like we do now. We didn’t even have cell phones. If we were fortunate, we had a tape player in our car where we could listen to our...
