People plan trips all the time. Some trips are just local and don’t require much planning. Other trips are expensive and far away. You want to get the most out of this journey as possible. You want to see everything you possibly can just in case you don’t get back there again. If that’s the case, a lot of times, you will hire a tour guide. Whether you go with a group or just your family, a tour guide is a good investment because they know how to get in all the sights in just the right order. They map the trip out carefully, making sure you hit the highlights and give you ample time to enjoy them. They know the best restaurants and shopping between point A and B. An experienced tour guide will even throw in historical facts about the areas you are touring. Tour guides are a much better choice for someone who is not familiar with the areas being visited.

Did you know that The Bible calls you a “foreigner” even in the land you currently live? If you are God’s child and have grown up in the same town your whole life, God still considers you a foreigner. “But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior.” (‭‭Philippians‬ ‭3‬:‭20‬ ‭NLT)‬‬ So, no, this is not our forever home. We are citizens of heaven. But we currently live on this earth. We need a tour guide!

The Lord says, “Only I can tell you the future before it even happens. Everything I plan will come to pass, for I do whatever I wish.” (‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭46‬:‭10‬ ‭NLT‬‬) Do you see this? He does whatever He wishes. We don’t always get what we wish for. At a glance, this may seem unfair but we’re not talking about a genie in a bottle. We’re talking about Almighty God. God is Love. He loves His children and wants the very best for each of us. Since He’s the only One who knows the future, doesn’t it make the most sense for Him to lead and guide us through this life? How can we possibly trust ourselves when we have no idea what tomorrow will bring? If I’m going to hit a rough patch in life, I want The One with me that knew it was coming to start with. I can trust that He’s working it into a situation that will ultimately bring good even out of turmoil.

“Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.” (‭‭Psalms‬ ‭23‬:‭4‬ ‭NLT‬‬) This has no implication whatsoever that I will not be going through hard times in this life. It says the exact opposite. It says “when” not “if” I go through the darkest valley. We all will find ourselves in dark places in life. “Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, ‘I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.’” (‭‭John‬ ‭8‬:‭12‬ ‭NLT‬‬) Darkness has to flee in the presence of Jesus. Whatever darkness you are facing is absolutely no match for The Lord of Lords. So The Lord promises us that if we walk with Him, His light will overcome the darkness.

When we need information, where do we go? There’s things on our tour of life that we are not going to understand. Google doesn’t always have the answers. We need to hear from The One Who Is information. “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.” (‭‭James‬ ‭1‬:‭5‬ ‭NLT‬‬) This is how we build our confidence and trust in The Lord. We go to Him with empty open hands and He takes our hands and leads us in the right direction. He isn’t bothered by us. He knows that we don’t know. We want to do the right thing at the right time but we need divine intervention. Jesus builds our faith in Him by coming through time and again.

This life is hard. It’s even harder if you’re having to rely only on your limited understanding. The Lord God Almighty is beckoning you to step out in faith and trust Him. He will take you places you’ve never been before and show you things you never imagined. Life can be very difficult but it can also be an adventure. Most of it depends on who you designate as your tour guide.

The Midnight Hour

There’s something interesting about midnight. At that very moment, yesterday dies and tomorrow is here. It may not seem like tomorrow because midnight is the darkest hour, humanly speaking, of the day. The void of light causes your hardships to amplify. Your...

Allergy season is here. Every year the pollen seems to be worse than the year before. I load up on the nasal sprays, ear drops and the antihistamines. As rough as the season is on my physical senses, things sure look pretty. The sun seems brighter, bees are flying...
