Yes it’s election time and the television, radio and internet are completely full of smear ads. Everyone wants to sway your thought process by making one another look unfit for office. It’s the campaign tactics we’ve all seen before. The truth of the matter is, no matter which side of the aisle you fall on, every single person running the race of life is in need of a Savior. None of us have everything all figured out. Nobody is perfect. The good news is that there’s One Who was! In fact, He’s the very One the Bible says, “Grace and peace to you from the one who is, who always was, and who is still to come.” (‭Revelation‬ ‭1‬:‭4‬ NLT) Jesus Christ came to this earth two thousand years ago to attain total Kingship and provide a way out of eternal death for imperfect people like us. So regardless of election outcomes, everything will always be ok because Jesus is King over all of it. I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms (‭Ephesians‬ ‭1‬:‭19-20‬ NLT).

In a world where people are trying to govern, Jesus is ruling and reigning from His throne. We need governing authorities in this world because God set it up that way for our own protection. As civilians, we need to pray that integrity and truth ultimately win out. Truth is the only way we can be free. Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. (‭John‬ ‭14‬:‭6‬ NLT). Also Jesus said, “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (‭John‬ ‭8‬:‭32‬ NLT) Our country is modeled after the freedom that Christ came to bring humanity. Freedom is not free. It’s very costly. But God wanted the captives to be set free.

Whether people admit it or not, Christ is King. “For he is the living God, and he will endure forever. His kingdom will never be destroyed, and his rule will never end.” (Daniel‬ ‭6‬:‭26‬ NLT) This shows us His eternal power. It absolutely has no end! While candidates are going back and forth on earthly issues, there’s a greater issue at hand. Is Jesus your King? This is a matter that has to be settled for you to have ultimate peace. Keeping our eyes on the country’s government is certainly important but that will never bring peace. Broken people on all sides cannot provide the security and peace your heart is designed to pull strength from. Only The Lord can fill the voids this world has bestowed upon us. This is why people can be in positions of power but only Jesus is King! Kings have the final word on matters. Jesus is the Word of God in the flesh! Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth.” (‭Matthew‬ ‭28‬:‭18‬ NLT) He rules it all. Isn’t this the One you want in charge of your very life? And unlike worldly authorities, we have access to this King of Kings! Regardless of who’s in office, we need to always remember Who’s on The Throne.

As citizens of this country, we have an obligation to vote. Hopefully the candidates that are elected will do their best to fulfill their office. Keep in mind, though, they are just people. They cannot know the beginning from the end. Don’t place too much confidence in human beings. Unfortunately, they will let you down. But there’s a King that will never let you down. Put your faith in the One who knows all. Jesus wants the very best for His people. God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church (‭Ephesians‬ ‭1‬:‭22‬ NLT). This is His world and His great plan. Every leader in this country and this world for that matter, is subject to the Kingship of Jesus. Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (‭Philippians‬ ‭2‬:‭9-11‬ NLT). He is the highest council!
