It seems like nowadays everything you do or buy requires extra insurance. If you book a trip, they ask if you want the traveler’s insurance. You never know when another sickness is going to break out and prevent you from your vacation. If you buy an electronic device, same thing. If it tears up within so much time, the manufacturer replaces it or gives you a refund. Nothing seems to be guaranteed. We, as human beings, like a “guarantee”. We want to know that our investment, in whatever that may be, is protected. The problem with this world’s system is that the guarantee is only as good as the guarantor. How much do we trust these transactions and these companies to really protect us? It’s hard to know for sure. You can’t really know. You just hope all goes well.
In a world of ebb and flows, we really can’t depend upon anything to thoroughly protect us except for Jesus. He’s the only immovable Guarantor. He doesn’t change with our economy. He’s not fretting over who the president is. He’s not constrained to man’s laws. He created the world we live in and He came to give us 100% assurance of protection. The plan costs us absolutely nothing but it cost Him His very life. By admitting that you’ve missed the mark somewhere along the way and that you desperately need what He offers to make it through this life, just ask! That’s it! Then, and only then, can you stand before a Holy God with the perfect, spotless covering of Jesus. This is the just requirement of God, The Father. By making Jesus Lord, you place yourself under His umbrella of protection. He IS your permanent “Everything” that’s with you all the time. How do we know it’s a guarantee? “For when God made a promise to Abraham, because He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself, saying, ‘Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you.’” (Hebrews 6:13-14 NKJV)
You might say, “I’m not Abraham.” No, but God is no respecter of persons and His word is absolutely guaranteed to all of us. “God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through?” (Numbers 23:19 NLT) He’s not going to go back on His word. What He has promised, will come to pass. You can see it all throughout history. His infallible Word has been proven true over and over again. Heaven is the final destination for the child of God, but we have to make it through this tough world. The “protection” starts here. “The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe.” (Proverbs 18:10 NLT)
Just speaking His Name causes enemies to flee and you are cocooned in an impenetrable fortress! There are real enemies out there. Financial enemies, emotional enemies, physical enemies, relational enemies etc. This strong fortress of His Name, my friends, is safe. The devil wants nothing more than to take you out. He wants to destroy your family. He wants to steal your joy and peace. He wants to knock your feet out from under you. This is serious. “But the Lord is faithful; he will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one.” (2 Thessalonians 3:3 NLT) This is what’s so amazing! We cannot keep ourselves from the evil of this fallen world, but He can and will! If you belong to Him, He already has! The secured victory already belongs to God’s children because of Who Jesus IS and what He has done.
So when you’re looking for an absolute guarantee, this world cannot offer it. Yes, we do the best we can with what God has given us. But anything here on earth will at some point let you down. This even includes well meaning family members and friends. They cannot offer the divine protection Jesus can. They, themselves, need His guarantee too! It doesn’t matter who has “what”. When it comes to being human, we all have the same core needs. This world, with all it has to offer, cannot give you perfect peace and rest at night. We all need to place our trust in God’s protection plan.
