Did you know that God is a dreamer?  We don’t often think of the Creator of the universe as being a “dreamer”, but He is! He creates us, allows us to come into this broken world and dreams that one day, we will choose to come back to Him. Why does He allow that? Wouldn’t it just be easier for Him to keep us with Him in Heaven? Sure. It appears that way to the human mind. But, God’s ways are not our ways. In order to love, you have to choose. Love is not a mandate. It’s a choice. So He dreams of the day that we will call out “I need You. I can’t do this on my own!”  The choice is made and the dream fulfilled. We are His and He is our’s. Beautiful!

We, made in the image of God, are also dreamers. God put dreams and desires in our hearts that will please Him and give us a purpose. Without purpose, what’s the point of this life? Get up, go to work, wash clothes, cook dinner, etc. I think not! God wants to use you. He’s given you specific information in your DNA that is special to you alone to fulfill your dreams and further His Kingdom. The Bible says, “Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal” (‭Matthew‬ ‭6‬:‭19-20‬ NLT). These treasures are eternal ones. These treasures are the imperishable. Sow your dreams into other people. They are the only treasures you will be able to take with you from this world to the next. Everything else that we strive to acquire is indeed staying here.   

It’s true that the world has really taken the wind out of our sails in the last couple of years. The Covid pandemic alone has been enough to drive anybody crazy! So much bad news. We wonder why we seem so defeated sometimes. We’ve got good families, nice homes, good jobs and yet something is missing. We’ve lost our focus. God’s saying it’s time to hope again. I’m mightier than anything this world hurls at you!  How do we dream again? The answer is not the way of man. It’s inside of you and you’re just not tapping into it. You’re more concerned with the matters of this world that really offer no lasting profit. 

The Bible gives us insight into this dilemma. “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a dream fulfilled is a tree of life” (‭Proverbs‬ ‭13‬:‭12‬). To postpone doing what will ultimately bring life makes you miserable. The Bible is so clear. We’re searching everywhere for fulfillment and it’s already in us! So you can go to work, go to the ballpark, go to the grocery store, etc. and look for encounters that God provides to offer you and others hope. You can impart what God has given you. It can be a smile, an encouraging word or just a listening ear. You don’t have to be a Bible scholar just to be a friend. You just have to be willing to be used by the Lord for His purposes. Just get out of your own world for a minute and care about someone else. I guarantee you’ll be more blessed than they will! You will both leave the situation with hope and this brings life! Now you’re getting your joy back! Now you’ve got a new spring to your step!

“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he” (Proverbs 29:18 KJV). You need to sit with the Lord and get His vision for your life. It will cost you nothing but you will gain everything you’re truly looking for. He’ll refresh those old dreams in you. You’ll feel excited about possibilities again. Your joy will start to spill over onto others. You’re being a blessing to them (just like Jesus), and in return, God is blessing you. This is how it’s supposed to work. This is God’s dream for you as His child. He doesn’t want you dreading another day at work. He wants you asking, “Lord, what can I do for you at work today? Who can I bless? Who needs a friend?” He will show you. He desires to give you hope and bring blessings to others to reignite their dreams as well. This is a heavenly vision. 

So, if you’re just going through the motions of life, I encourage you to dream again. Dream with the Lord. Partner with Him to be on a treasure hunt for someone who needs to dream again also. Deposit what He gives you into their life. He will bless you for it. You can never out give God! In this way, you will be storing treasure up in Heaven that’s eternal. Joy and fulfillment will spring forth. Let’s get excited about life again! Let’s be dreamers!
