We’ve all heard the saying “ignorance is bliss”.  In some cases, I’ll admit, it is better to not understand the details. Sometimes the severity of something can grind you to your core and worry, anxiety, fear etc. kicks in. You’re better off to not know the details and keep your wits about you in those cases. However, sometimes we need to know exactly what’s going on down to the last detail. This can and will protect us. Did you know you entered this world in a war? A lot of people do not understand this and they’re being kicked around by the devil himself and have no idea that this war was won a long time ago by Jesus on our behalf. That’s right. If you’re a child of God, you have the absolute authority to send the enemy packing when he comes around. We’ve been given that authority by Christ. If you don’t know you have something, you can’t use it. But when you understand what belongs to you in Christ, you can live a victorious life here in this broken world. 

Jesus died a death He didn’t deserve on a cross that we deserved to secure our future. He had no sin but He took ours upon Himself and nailed it to the cross nullifying sin’s consequences for those who believe in Him. As a result, we have eternal life with Him. That’s wonderful news but that’s not all that took place on that most historical day. He gave those that would believe in Him authority that we never would have known. Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you (‭Luke‬ ‭10‬:‭19‬ NLT). Wow! Game changer for sure! This is literally showing us that the lying enemy is always up to his tricks, but Jesus has secured the authority for us over “all the power of the enemy”. So don’t let him trick you. Don’t fall for the lies. Go with God’s Truth! How do we do this?  

For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ (‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭10‬:‭4-5‬ NKJV). So, we hear a negative statement about ourselves. We or someone else, makes an accusation against us. We compare ourselves to someone else and decide that “we don’t measure up”. Whatever the case may be, we take those words and hold them up to what God says in the Bible about us. God’s Word is Truth. These other intrusions are lies. So, we actually speak out the Truth. The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit (‭Proverbs‬ ‭18‬:‭21‬ NIV). We need to hear ourselves agree with what God’s Word says about us. Let His truth get stronger in you than the lie. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (‭John‬ ‭8‬:‭32‬ NLT)

Your authority over the enemy is found in God’s Word. It is truly your offensive weapon. Here’s a real life example. You’re thinking of training to run a 5K. The thought goes through your mind that you can’t do that. Why even bother? At that very moment, you have a decision to make. You agree with the lie trying to keep you from achieving your goal or you check and see what God’s Word says about your situation. The Bible says “For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” (‭Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭13‬ NLT) Ok! Tell the enemy and yourself that with God’s help, you can do this! Jesus will strengthen and help you. Completely different perspective. This is healthy. The enemy does not want you to overcome obstacles but God says, “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us” (‭Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭37‬ NIV). Get the idea? Jesus has set you up for victory. 

God doesn’t want you to be ignorant about what belongs to you as his child. Yes, He wants to spend eternity with you but He also paved the way for you to live victoriously on this side of Heaven. Take Him at His Word. Let His Word define you. It already does whether you believe it or not. Even the devil knows God’s Word defines His children as off limits to the evil one. Make a conscious effort to know what belongs to you if you’re in Christ. Satan wants to derail your train of thought. He wants the lies to be bigger and louder to you. Don’t let that happen. You have absolute authority over him given to you by Jesus. Use it!
